PURPOSE: An optical magnetic recording medium and a playback method thereof are provided to reproduce information by optical access while not using a magnetic head. CONSTITUTION: Optical beam is collected on a playback layer(13) by an object lens. The playback layer, a switching layer(12), and a recording layer(11) are heated by the optical beam. The playback layer becomes a magnetic inverse state in a large area by an optical spot, because the curie temperature of the playback layer is row. Herein, a large area of the switching layer is not sufficiently heated for blocking the magnetic field between the recording layer and the playback layer. And, the heated area of the switching layer is vertically magnetized by the recording layer. The playback layer is magnetically inversed in a large area including the magnetized area of the switching layer. Thus, the magnetizing information recorded in the recording layer is played back by the magnetization of the switching/playback layers.
