PURPOSE: A device for converting a mode of an equalizer, is provided to prevent an emission of the equalizer and to minimize an unnecessary operation for a correct mode switching, by controlling a point of time switching a blind equalizing mode and a decision directed equalizing(DDE) mode through a distribution chart of signals in an array. CONSTITUTION: A device for converting a mode of an equalizer comprises a scaler(100), an area discriminator(110), and a coefficient and comparison deciding device(120). The scaler(100) operates absolute values of equalized signals after receiving the signals, and outputs by converting the operated signals to reference areas. The area discriminator(110) receives output signals of the scaler and divided the received output signals into a first and a second area. And the coefficient and comparison deciding device(120) calculates rates of the first and the second area, and outputs mode selection signals according to the calculation. The scaler(100) comprises an absolute value operator(101), a decision area discriminator(102) and an area converter(103). The absolute value operator(101) receives an equalized real number and imaginary number, and outputs by operation absolute values of the numbers. The decision area discriminator(102) decides determination area of the equalized signals. And the area converter(103) converts the output signals of the absolute value operator into values of reference areas according to a decision signal of the decision area discriminator.
