The propellent charge includes a number of conductive plates (101) with insulating material (105) in between, all of which are stacked on top of each other so that the holes (106) in them form a channel housing the sheets of propellent material (102, 103) and conductive material (104). A propellent charge comprises sheets of compact propellent material with an intermediate layer of electrically conductive material in between. The charge includes a number of electrically conductive plates with insulating material in between, all of which contain holes and are stacked on top of each other so that the holes are arranged concentrically to form a channel. The sheets of propellent material and electrically conductive material are located inside the channel, with each conductive material layer being connected to at least two of the conductive plates. Independent claims are also included for (a) a combustion vessel containing this charge, the channel forming at least part of the combustion region, and (b) a weapons system comprising a firing tube with this combustion vessel connecting it to a backblast tube, a closure piece, and a device for passing current to and from the plates in the vessel. |
