PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a color filter with no defects such as color nonuniformity, bleaching and color mixture, by using an ink jet method. SOLUTION: In this method for manufacturing a color filter by arranging selectively pixels colored with each colorant on a substrate 1 by discharging ink 5 containing a plurality of colorants with different spectral characteristics from an ink jet head to the substrate 1, a strip of color mixing preventing layer comprising a water repellant organic thin film 4 is formed beforehand between the pixels formed by discharging the ink 5 containing the different colorants.
