PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently irradiate ultraviolet rays generated from a straight tube type ultrahigh pressure mercury lamp. SOLUTION: In an ultrahigh pressure mercury lamp and a jacket tube, a constricted part 13 is formed on the outer wall of the jacket tube provided on the outer periphery of the glass tube 2 of the straight tube type ultrahigh pressure mercury lamp 1a, and plural projecting parts 14 are formed in the longitudinal direction of the jacket tube 8 so as to condense ultraviolet rays from the ultrahigh pressure mercury lamp on an irradiating surface with the projecting part 14 as a convex lens.
