PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information retrieving device capable of suitable information retrieval according to the designated retrieval request. SOLUTION: This device has an image content word holding part 219 for correspondently storing multimedia information and content words expressing the concept plotted in this multimedia information in a language and an associated word dictionary 211 for correspondently storing the content words and non- associated words not to coocaur with the content words, the non-associated word corresponding to an inputted retrieval word is acquired from the associated word dictionary 211 and based on the acquired non-associated word, the multimedia information is retrieved by a retrieval processing part 210. A feature amount corresponding to the inputted retrieval word is extracted and based on the extracted feature amount, the multimedia information is retrieved by a retrieval processing part 214. Based on the first retrieved result provided by the retrieval processing part 210, the second retrieved result provided by the retrieval processing part 214 and the first retrieved result are merged by a retrieved result merge processing part 217.
