PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reinforce the function of a separator for insulatingly separate a positive electrode and a negative electrode, to thin the thickness in the case of a nonwoven fabric separator, and to improve the performance, such as a capacity increase of a battery or the like, by including material capable of absorbing electrolyte solution and swelling in a separator, and by allowing the material to absorb the electrolyte solution and to swell, when the electrolyte solution is injected at the time of manufacturing a battery. SOLUTION: A separator 109 installed between a positive electrode and a negative electrode includes material capable of absorbing electrolyte solution and swelling, or retains solid electrolyte. Namely, the material capable of absorbing electrolyte solution and swelling is included inside the separator 109 or coated on the surface thereof. When the electrolyte solution is injected at the time of manufacturing a battery, the material capable of absorbing the electrolyte solution and swelling absorbs the electrolyte solution and swells, to thereby enable to reinforce the function of the separator 109. Especially, in the case of a separator having many apertures, such as an unwoven fabric separator or the like, the apertures are filled with the material which absorbed the electrolyte solution and swelled, therefore, the use of a thick separator becomes unnecessary. |
