PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bidirectional amplifier, without requiring modifying work, regardless of home terminal configuration. SOLUTION: When a CATV modem is installed in a home terminal, a switch RS is changed over and a contact (a) is connected to the contact (b), so that an incoming signal is amplified by an incoming amplifier 16 and outputted. When a high output CATV modem is installed in the home terminal, the switch RS is changed over and the contact (a) is connected to the contact (c), so that the incoming signal is outputted as it is by passing it through the amplifier 16. When the CATV modem is not installed in the home terminal, the switch RS is changed over and the contact (a) is connected to the contact (d), so that the incoming signal is interrupted by the amplifier 16 in a passive state.
