For persons with a one-side physical impairment or with restricted hand movement, the reading matter holder enables them to read and observe books and newspaper of various kinds and sizes and has a washable reading surface (a). This surface has a foot strip (s) which is short and centrally fixed to it from beneath for setting out the reading matter. The foot strip is of reduced length and guarantees a free space beneath the reading surface for laying down and moving additional reading matter in the field of vision of the person using the holder. A support (b) in stirrup form is backwardly inclined and held by a cord (g), the length of which determining the inclination of the reading surface can be reduced by suspending the cord on hooks (i). Two clamps (c) with holes enable the holder to be suspended.
