PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost and enhance conversion efficiency by using semiconductor fine particles sensitized with polymethine coloring matter. SOLUTION: Polymethine coloring matter is represented by the formula. In the formula, Q is an aromatic group of at least four functionality; X1 and X2 independently are each S, O, Se atoms, CR1R2 or CR3=CR4 (R1-R4 are each a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group); R and R' independently are each an alkyl group or an aromatic group; P1 and P2 independently are each a nonmetallic atom group necessary for forming polymethine coloring matter; and W1 is pair ions which are needed to neutralize charges. In a semiconductor sensitized with this coloring matter, light absorption and generation of an electron and a hole by light absorption are caused mainly in the coloring matter, and the semiconductor plays a role for receiving electrons and transmitting them. As the semiconductor, titanium dioxide is preferably listed. |
