PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the constitution simpler and the circuit scale as small as possible by using a bit pattern generating circuit and a sticky bit selecting circuit of smaller constitution for the sticky bit value predicting circuit. SOLUTION: The sticky bit value predicting circuit 20A supplies a multiplicand X and a multiplier Y to a priority encoder 21 and a bit pattern generating circuit 25. The priority encoder 21 finds a value corresponding to a bit position of '1' which has higher priority toward the lower-order side of the multiplicand X, i.e., the number C of 0's in the ending of a word. The bit pattern generating circuit 25 generates the bit pattern B of the values of sticky bits S for all values of the word-ending zero quantity of the multiplicand X. The sticky bit selecting circuit 26 is supplied with the bit pattern B and the number of the word-ending zero C, and selects and outputs one bit in the bit pattern B as a sticky bit S according to the number of the word-ending zero C. |
