PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deformation of contact pins in the insertion by providing a movable hold section holding specific contact pins when a six-pole modular plug is inserted into a plug insertion port removably inserted with a modular plug interlockingly with a detecting mechanism provided to distinguish an eight- pole modular plug and the six-pole modular plug. SOLUTION: When a six-pole modular plug 7 is inserted into the modular plug insertion port of this modular jack, both ends of the tip outer shell of the six-pole modular plug 7 are not brought into contact with the slopes of tongue pieces 2, moving hold sections 3 are not slid, and the fixed positions of two contact pins on both sides are located at positions lower than the other terminals. Even when a stress larger than normal is applied to terminals by the outer shape section of the molding of the six-pole modular plug 7, two contact pins on both sides escape downward, thus two contact pins on both sides are neither deformed nor damaged.
