Posters are illuminated from behind by a light box comprising a frame (1) with fluorescent tubes (2) at the sides of the frame and with reflectors (3) between the side walls (10) of the frame and the fluorescent tubes, directing light into the interior space defined by the frame. An optical diffuser (6) is positioned in the interior to diffuse light beams directed parallel to the surface of at least one base plate (4) to the base plate. Pref. two fluorescent tubes are provided along opposite vertical sides of the frame and completely within the frame wall, each having a reflector in the form of a hollow cylinder cut along its central plane. Base plate is pref. of plexiglass.
