PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the noise produced from the outdoor machine and/or indoor machine of an air conditioner without restricting the installed location of the outdoor machine nor requiring any special setting work. SOLUTION: An air conditioner can be operated remotely by means of a remote controller 10 and each section of the air conditioner is controlled by means of a microcomputer 20. The remote controller 10 is provided with a clock section 12 which counts the present time. The microcomputer 20 discriminates whether or not the present time is night based on the data about the present time transmitted from the remote controller 10 (discriminating section 211) and, when the microcomputer 20 discriminates that the present time is night, controls the operations of the indoor machine A and outdoor machine B of the air conditioner in saved states (control section 212).
