PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a substrate for a liquid crystal display device in which a spacer formed is hardly collapsed by incorporating metal oxide ultrafine particles and/or metal alkoxides. SOLUTION: The spacer formed on a substrate for a liquid crystal display device contains metal oxide ultrafine particles and/or metal alkoxides. As for the metal oxide ultrafine particles, particles of SiO2, TiO2, Sb2O5, ZrO2, Al2O3, Nb2O5, MnO2, PbO, Bi2O3, SnO2, HfO2, Nd2O3 or the like can be used and one kind of these or combination of two or more kinds can be used. As for the metal alkoxides, Si(OCH2CH3)4, Ti(OCH(CH3)2)4, Hf(OCH2CH2CH2CH3)4, Ta(OC2 H5)5, Zr(OCH2CH2CH2CH3)4, Ba(OC2H5)2 or the like can be used, and one kind of these or combination of two or more kinds can be used. |
