PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize the automatic accompaniment device which can change an accompaniment style without neglecting playing operation. SOLUTION: The automatic accompaniment style is changed according to ways of pressing and releasing keys in an accompaniment key area or a chord kind specified in the accompaniment key area and chord progression. In this case, an automatic accompaniment based upon a main pattern is advanced corresponding to key pressing operation in, for example, a chord specification key area 2a and when key releasing operation is done in the chord specification area 2a during the period, the automatic accompaniment is automatically switched from the main pattern to a subordinate pattern. Consequently, the change of the accompaniment pattern can be indicated in desired timing without putting the hands away from the keyboard and the accompaniment style can be changed without neglecting playing operation.
