PURPOSE: An apparatus for observing a performance of a wavelength division multiplexing system is provided to improve a reliability to a performance observation of the wavelength division multiplexing system. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for observing a performance of a wavelength division multiplexing system comprises a tap(102) which receives an optical signal amplified by an optical reception module(112) to divide the received optical signal into two portions. A demultiplexer(104) demultiplexes either one of the divided signals so as to output a plurality of channel optical signals. A channel selector(106) selects one of the channel optical signals according to a control of a control part(110). A performance observing part(108) converts an optical signal from the channel selector(106) into an electrical signal, and provides a bit error rate corresponding to the electrical signal to the control part(110). The control part(110) displays the bit error rate through a display part(112), and a memory part(116) stores a process program and various set information of the control part(110).
