PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly supply gas from a heating chamber to a condensing chamber and to inexpensively prevent a contamination in the heating chamber or the like. SOLUTION: The garbage treating machine comprises a front door 12 for opening or closing a front opening of a hollow case type, and an inner body 20 having a vertically movable mounting base 28 to mount a treating tank 80 opened at its upper surface for containing garbage such as raw refuse or the like. A heater 28b is mounted on the base. A condenser 50 for cooling gas containing steam generated from the garbage communicates with the body through an exhaust tube 42 externally extended through a horizontal plate 23 of the body. A return tube 71 is connected between a downstream side of the condenser and the body to communicate with the condenser through the body. The base is moved upward according to a closing operation of the door by a door mounting base cooperating means for cooperating the opening or closing operation of the door with the vertical operation of the base, and an opened upper surface peripheral edge of a treating tank mounted on the base is brought into close contact with the plate.
