PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device as a result by allowing the dynamic monitor of the floating variation of a head for the device under actual use environmental condition in the such as the secular change of the head or the individual variance of the head. SOLUTION: From a 1st automatic gain control(AGC) amplifier circuit part 10 and a 2nd AGC amplifier circuit part 20 provided in a read channel 100, each gain control amount is extracted. In a computing element 35, each gain control amount is inputted to calculate the ratio of control amounts related to the floating height of the head 1. In a CPU 40, the calculated ratio of the control amounts is inputted by an A/D converter 36 as a digital value, and the floating height of the head is measured based on the ratio of the control amounts for monitoring the variation of the floating amount.
