PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply a semitransmitting layer the reflectance-transmittance of which can be designed as desired on the inner face of a panel of a semitransmitting liquid crystal display device by forming a light reflection layer of a metal film having a light-transmitting part consisting of microholes having a specified size on one surface of a substrate. SOLUTION: The semitransmitting substrate 20 consists of a transparent glass plate 21 such as soda glass having smooth surfaces. Or a plastic substrate may be used, A semitransparent layer 22 is formed on one surface of the transparent glass plate 21. For example, the semitransmitting layer 22 consists of an aluminum film formed by sputtering. Although an aluminum film intrinsically reflects light, the aluminum film has a large number of microholes (micropores) 221 as the light-transmitting part. The light emitted from the light source 272 of a back light 27 passes through the microholes 221 of the semitransmitting layer 22 through the light conducting plate 271 to irradiate the display part. The external light is reflected by the aluminum film. |
