PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set a network address matching network environment for a printer by receiving communication data from the network where the printer is con nected, acquiring and analyzing network address information to be used, and automatically determining a network address for the printer. SOLUTION: Plural network addresses are acquired by obtaining communication data on the network through a host interface 211. A CPU 212 analyzes the obtained network addresses and decides whether or not a network address candidate for the printer can be determined. When it is decided that a network address candidate can be determined, the network address candidate for the printer device is determined. At a display part on a console panel 217, the determined network address is displayed. The optimum network address can, therefore, be automatically determined.
