PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary drier capable of rapidly and uniformly drying by removing a steam layer generated and retained on a charge upon heating and raising the contact ratio of hot gas and the charge. SOLUTION: A regular polygonal liner 9 is arranged so as to form an inner wall in the inner periphery of a rotary drum 1. A beam 12 extending substantially axially is provided in the drum and a gas introducing tube 13 for supplying hot gas 3a for drying to a charge 2 is formed therein. The hot gas 3a is supplied through a jet nozzle 17 from a position just near to the surface layer part of the charge 2 to directly perform a heat exchange while blowing off generated steam. Thus, even when the drum rotates, the charge is kept coming into contact with the hot gas for a long time by temporarily maintaining the form of the accumulating layer of the charge. On the other hand, when the accumulating layer collapses, a positive mixture in the layer is achieved to improve a drying effect thereafter. Thus, a furnace easing is prevented from being long and large and the construction cost of the furnace casing can be reduced.
