PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately repeat a signal without being influenced by undershoot, etc., of an inputted AMI(alternate mark inversion) signal. SOLUTION: This regenerative repeater which has an equalizing amplifier 2 that performs waveform equalization of a received input AMI signal and an identification reproducing device 4 which identifies whether a waveform equalization signal equalization signal is a signal '1' or a signal '0' by comparing the signal undergoing waveform equalization with prescribed threshold contains a violation code detector 5 that detects if an output signal of the device 4 is a violation code and a code converter 6 which performs error correction of a mark bit just before the violation code in the output signal of the device 4 when it is detected as a violation code by the detector 5.
