PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording device with which information concerning importance and redundancy in video information or sound information is made to be one, where the intention of a user (photographer) is reflected and more effective editing is executed. SOLUTION: This device is provided with first storage means 6 and 7 storing video information or sound information, an area extracting means 8 extracting an area with high importance in video information, redundant information calculating means 9 and 10 calculating information concerning redundancy in video information or sound information, a level of importance setting means 11 for a user to optionally set the importance in video information or sound information, a level changing means 13 for changing the level of information concerning redundancy, based on the importance which is set by the means 11 and second storage means 14 and 15 storing information concerning redundancy with the level which is changed by the means 13.
