Herbicidal compositions comprise as active ingredient 2 - chloro - 4,5 - difluorophenoxyacetic acid and/or one or more of its functional derivatives, i.e. the salts and esters of the free acid, the amide and N-substituted amides, dispersed on a pulverulent solid carrier or dissolved or dispersed in a liquid diluent which is or includes water and/or an agricultural oil. The derivative may be a sodium, potassium or ammonium salt of 2-chloro-4,5-difluorophenoxyacetic acid or an amine salt thereof formed with primary, secondary or tertiary alkyl and/or alkanolamines whether straight or branched-chain, the amine salt preferably being formed with alkyl and/or alkanol amines whose N-substituents are chosen from the following methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, octyl, decyl, dodecyl, ethanol and propanol groups or the derivatives may be an ester formed with one of the following alcohols, viz. methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-, isopropyl-, butyl-, hexyl-, nonyl-, decyl-, dodecyl-, and tridecyl-alcohols, glycol, polyethylene glycol and butoxyethoxy propanol or an ester formed with an alcohol of the general formula R(OCnH2n).mOH, where R is an alkyl radical with from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, n is 2 or 3, and m is an integer from 1 to 3. Sequestering agents and penetrants may also be included. |
