PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a liquid crystal display device response to a display picture at high speed and to enable the device to display a satisfactory color picture by performing assigning intensity levels in which the response time of liquid crystal is longer than one frame period at a prescribed gradation state in the transient response state of the liquid crystal. SOLUTION: A sample-and-hold circuit 119 samples picture data Video with transistors 107 at risings of sampling signals PH1, PH2,... to hold voltage and it writes the voltage in holding capacitances 113. Transistors 108 are brought into conduction by a reset signal RES1 to sample a reset voltage Vres and they hold the voltages. Moreover, liquid crystal aligning initializing transistors 117 are brought into conduction by a reset signal RES2 and they write the reset voltage RES2 in liquid crystal holding capacitances 115 and they initialize the aligning of liquid crystal and transistors 114 are brought into conduction by a data transferring signal DT and they transfer the picture data Video of the holding capacitances 113 to the liquid crystal holding capacitances 115 and as a result, the picture data Video are simultaneously impressed on the liquid crystal to display a picture.
