PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which improves the quality of a read image by reducing or eliminating sticking of dust or dirt to the light reception face of a bare chip CCD. SOLUTION: With respect to a light quantity detecting member 11, a circuit board 17 is provided in an enclosure 16, and a bare chip CCD 18 is mounted in this circuit board 17, and a transparent substrate 19 is set, and it is closed air tightly by the circuit board 17 and the enclosure 16 to form a closed space 20. An enclosure 22 for lens attachment which has an optical lens 21 is fixed to a base plate 23. The enclosure 22 for lens attachment is setup on the light quantity detection member 11, and the image of reflected light from a document 24 to be read is formed on the bare chip CCD 18 through the transparent substrate 19 by the optical lens 21.
