PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture display device which displays a natural picture by discriminating a displaying area and emphasizing the contract, brightness, hue, etc. SOLUTION: When a natural picture is contained in video signals 11, a detection circuit 4 fetches a discriminate signal 32 from a synchronizing signal 31 with the discriminate signal 32 upon receiving the signal 31. The discriminate signal 32 is inputted to a control circuit 5 and the circuit 5 generates a control signal 51 which emphasizes the natural picture in the video signals 11 and inputs the control signal 51 to a display circuit 6. Upon receiving the control signal 51, the circuit 6 controls the signal level of the natural picture.
