PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect white standard data which are hardly affected by scratch, dust, etc., of a compensator by comparing flag data with a second standard value for pixel positions and deciding the acquisition of one-line first image data as being white standard data, after reading lines up to the max number of read lines and updating the first image data and the flag data. SOLUTION: A comparator 54 compares the value of a pixel position in a main scanning direction, which is inputted from an address counter 52, with the number of valid pixels in the main scanning direction. The comparison result which is outputted from the comparator 54 is inputted to a controller 60. A line counter 56 counts read lines C0 in the sub scanning direction. A synchronizing signal LSYNC for a vertical scanning direction and a line interval signal LDUTY, which indicates intervals of reading the compensator, are inputted to the line counter 56. The controller 60 controls the operation as a whole for a white standard data detecting device 22 under the control of a CPU 62.
