PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fault-point locating system in which a fault point can be located when a transmission and distribution line is broken down. SOLUTION: In the fault-point locating system, slave stations 1 which are installed in a transmission and distribution line and which transmit information on the transmission and distribution line to a master station 2 are provided, and the master station 2 which specifies a fault section on the basis of the information is provided. The slave stations 1 receive GPS radio waves, they synchronize the present time of a GPS with their own present time, they detect the surge current of the transmission and distribution line in which the slave stations 1 are installed, they specify the detection time of the surge current, they recognize the polarity of the surge current, and they transmit information on these to the master station 2. Between the slave station 1 which is closest to the power-supply end of the transmission and distribution line and the slave station 1 at the end, the master station 2 specifies the candidate point of a position, in which a fault is generated, on the basis of a difference in the detection time of the surge current, and on the basis of the length of the transmission and distribution line between the slave stations. The transmission and distribution line in a prescribed range including the candidate point is totaled so as to form a fault-position candidate section, and a fault section is specified on the basis of information on the polarity of the slave stations 1 contained in the candidate section and on the polarity of the slave stations 1 around the fault-position candidate section.
