PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To embody a liquid crystal display element which is capable of preventing the occurrence of air bubbles in a liquid crystal layer in a display section and preventing a display defect, such as image defect, by the occurrence of the air bubbles. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element consisting of a liquid crystal cell formed by forming a closed cell between a pair of substrates disposed to face each other and packing a liquid crystal composition 6 into the closed space has a compressive section (air bubble) 3 in a section within the closed space of the liquid crystal cell or a section communicating with the closed space and in a place (for example, a liquid crystal injection port 5a) exclusive of a display section and, therefore, the sharp pressure change by the impact, etc., from outside is absorbed by the compressive section and consequently, the pressure change in the liquid crystals 6 is relieved and the generation of the air bubbles in the display section may be prevented. The display defect, such as the image defect, by the air bubble generation in the display section may be prevented. In addition, the compressive section has the air bubble, by which the gas in the liquid crystals is absorbed in the air bubble disposed in the compressive section exclusive of the display section and the generation of the air bubbles in the display section may be suppressed.
