PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hand scanner which more easily maintains a proper positional relation between the optical system of the scanner and a material as the scan object. SOLUTION: This hand scanner is provided with a first side wall 24 and a second sidewall 26, which are extended in the lateral direction of an arrow 84 and are arranged in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of an arrow 82 and are placed apart from each other, and a convex part 20 is provided which is extended between first and second sidewalls 24 and 26 and is provided with an image light aperture part through which image light passes, and the convex part 20 demarcates a first contact axis 22 which is extended in the lateral direction and is arranged between first and second sidewalls 24 and 26 in the longitudinal direction, and thus a main body 12 can be inclined in a first direction with the first contact axis as the center, while the convex part 20 is brought into contact with a material 14 as the scan object.
