PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To magnetically record information with a high density with use of a highly accurate positioning servo technique in an optical disk apparatus. SOLUTION: A magnetic disk 1 as the magnetic recording medium has a transparent substrate 2 of light-transmitting properties, a magnetic record layer 5 layered to one surface of the transparent substrate 2 for transmitting at least part of light emitted from outside, and a servo information record layer 4 formed to the other surface of the transparent substrate 2 for reflecting light passing the magnetic record layer 5 and transparent substrate 2 and where servo information is recorded.
