PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a five-phase permanent magnet type motor which has low profile, small in basic step angle with the same number of magnetic poles of a rotor as that of the conventional number, and reduces the higher harmonic components of the holding torque. SOLUTION: In a permanent magnet type motor M1, rotor magnetic poles 5 of a pole pair number P=5n+α(where, n is an integer of not less than 1, andαis an integer of not less than 1 but not more than 4) are formed in a rotor 2 on surfaces facing opposite stator magnetic poles P1, P2, P3, etc., of a stator, and at least two stator small teeth 4 whose small tooth pitch angleθt=360 k/P degrees (where, 0.75<=k<=1) are provided on the stator magnetic poles, an angleθp formed by the axes of the group of small teeth 4 provided on the two adjacent stator magnetic poles is represented by the equationθp=360(m+β)/P degrees (where, m is an integer satisfying the inequalities m<=n, and 0.4<=β<=0.6), and two windings around two stator magnetic poles are wired, so as to realize the mutually reverse polarity to form one phase winding.
