<p>The invention relates to an airbag module comprising a module housing and a gas bag to which a gas generator is assigned. According to the invention the gas bag (1) can be unfolded sequentially in several directions, ending in the direction of a vehicle occupant (4). To this end the gas bag (1) is divided into two chambers (10, 14) by a separating element which is substantially perpendicular to the occupant (4); on one side of the first chamber (10) facing away from the occupant (4) a connecting opening (15) for connecting the gas bag (1) to the module housing (16) is provided for and on the other side of said first chamber (10) an overflow hole (17) to the second chamber (14) is provided for which faces towards the occupant (4); and the gas bag (1) is connected to the module housing (16) perpendicular to the connecting opening (15) of the gas bag (1) at such an angle in relation to an axis that when the gas bag (1) is inflated a torque (M) is produced about said axis which is such that the gas bag (1) in the area of the first chamber (10) can be pushed against a vehicle part (6) which forms an angle of less than 180° with the connecting opening (15) and can thus be stabilized in its position. The above airbag module ensures the full protective function of the airbag even if the airbag module is positioned laterally in relation to the direction of action required by the airbag in case of collision.</p> |
