A solvent cleaning apparatus is provided comprising a container (10) for holding a liquid solvent; a heater for heating the solvent in the container, a vapour space (14) arranged to receive vapour from the solvent chamber through which articles can be passed to clean them, a vent for venting gas containing solvent vapour from the solvent container, the vent comprising a condenser (20) for condensing the solvent vapour and an electrostatic electrode (24) arranged in the vicinity of the condenser which is electrostatically charged to attract or repel the solvent vapour onto the cooled surface of the condenser, thereby increasing the efficiency of removal of the vapour from the vented gas and greatly reduces the level of emission of the vapour to the atmosphere.
