The adjuster (13) consists of a tensioned toothed belt (13) as led over a toothed shaft (19) joined to the swivel holder (11) and the side guard (12) stands vertical when raised and when lowered remains vertically alongside the bed. A slide (15) works with a stop (16) fixed to the bed so as to arrest the guard when raised and prevent its swinging sideways. When the guard is let down from top to bottom position the holder (11) pivots 180 deg round the swivel axis (10) and the toothed belt shaft (19) stands parallel to this axis (10). Preferably the belt moves over three toothed shafts (17-19) or wheels which form an L figure in side view using a pressure roller (20) which presses onto and so tensions the belt (13).
