THREE-DIMENSIONAL SKELETON DATA COMPRESSING DEVICE

A three-dimensional skeleton data compressing device for reducing the quantity of skeleton data by compression without deteriorating the quality of drawing of a three-dimensional object. A weight detecting section detects, from input skeleton data, weight information including the numeric values of the degrees of influence of the motions of the skeletons on the vertices, and a weight compressing section deletes the skeletons of the degrees of influence below a predetermined threshold. A skeleton compressing section performs a first skeleton compression of the skeletons having no polygon vertices for which effective weight values are set. The relative movement of the skeletons is detected, and a second compression is performed to degenerate and integrate into a unified skeleton a group of skeletons not relatively moving and unified. Masks are put on skeletons not to be subjected to skeleton compression, if necessary. A polygon file is generated from compression skeleton data, information on models of polygons and textures, and scenario information.
