The common channel direct access code division multiplexed access system has multiple terminals (100) transmitting digital words to a base post (200) using a communications channel. The base post receives digital word signals with front end codes, which are not address related, being selected by each of the multiple terminals. The base post searches all possible front end codes, to acquire the signal. If the base post acquires the front end code the terminal transmits the digital words, otherwise re transmitting the front end code.
