A drying apparatus for drying hair in which an axial flow of heated air is diverged from an axis (47) toward a circular array of flow nozzles (36) at a selected flow velocity. The nozzles (36) direct the heated air along a conic al flow pattern such that the air is focused to a common point (46). When the circular array (36) is positioned such that the scalp of a user (12) is located between the circular array (36) and the common point (46), hair will be lifted to provide enhanced drying conditions. The circular array (36) is located on a nozzle structure (26) which may be integral with the housing of a hand-held hair dryer, or configured as a separable attachment.
