A power supply circuit for producing potential used to drive a liquid-crystal device comprises first to fourth switches (101-104) connected in series between a high-potential line (105) and a low-potential line (106). The first to fourth switches are driven by a switch drive circuit (107) such that the ON period of the first and third switches alternates with the ON period of the second and fourth switches. The switching operation by the switch drive circuit connects first to third capacitors (111-113) alternately in series and in parallel. Since the third capacitor (113) is connected to the first and second capacitors (111, 112) alternately in series and in parallel, the potential difference between the second and the third switch is settled to an intermediate potential between the high potential line and the low potential line.
