The invention concerns a detachable spacer (17) for a cooking utensil characterised in that it comprises a first surface capable of being supported on a wall (4.2, 4.3, 5, 7, 19) of a container receiving food to be cooked and a second surface capable of being supported on the food to be cooked so as to provisionally reduce the available volume for the food in at least a container receiving food items to be cooked from the utensil (1) to provide the food with a desired shape and prevent said food from being deformed or expanding while it is being cooked.
