Shears 3, 4 for trimming the opposite edges of a plate 5 on the shearing line of a platerolling train each have a fixed bottom blade and a movable top blade, the return path of which after a cutting stroke differs from the cutting path. Shears 2 crop the end of the plate, which is fed along a roller-table 1 by driven rolls 12, 14 and guided by edge-rolls or rails 13 and rolls 8 carried by the shears 3, 4. The trailing end of the plate is guided by a carriage 10 on rails 11 and fixed to the plate by a clamp or magnet. Instead of the driven rolls 12, 14, the carriage 10 may feed the plate, assisted by driven rolls (not shown) on the shears. Lateral sections on the trimming cutters sever the trimmed margins into short lengths discharged by a band conveyer 6. The shears 3, 4 may be moved apart between adjustable stops during return strokes of the cutters. If these are on pivoted beams, the beams or the beams and their pivots may be withdrawn during return strokes. The movable blade or blades on each side of the table may rotate (Fig. 2, not shown), being driven by an intermittently or continuously rotating shaft. The plate is clamped and advanced between trimming cuts. If the blade is reciprocated hydraulically or by a crank mechanism 39, Fig. 3, both guides 35, 36 may be moved for return strokes of the blade 38 or, as shown, the guide 36 may be turned about its pivot 40 by an eccentric 42. In a modification, Fig. 4, the guide 45 for the cutter-beam 37 is withdrawn by hydraulic cylinders 49 on rods 47 in screw threads in the tapered guide 45. Stop-nuts 53, 54 limit movement of the guides, which may be arranged to pivot on the rods 47. Movements of the guides are controlled automatically, and it may be necessary only to loosen them so that during return strokes of the cutters the bearing pressure of the cutters on the work is reduced. The movable cutter may pivot on its beam into the release position. |
