At least two rail vehicle cars (1,2) are connected by a turntable pivot joint (3). A rotary motion retarder (4) is fitted between the two halves of the pivot joint. The retarder consists of two cooperating sliding friction surfaces at the edge of the turntable, one surface fitted to each turntable joint half. The friction surfaces consist of at least one friction pad and a sliding plate arranged concentrically to the turntable axis and extending around a portion of the turntable circumference.
