Heat treatment of solid bulk products e.g. food, by injection of dry steam, avoids blockage of the heating coil

A bulk solid product is heated as it passes through a vibrating helical tube (2). Dry steam is injected into the tube at a number of points (10) and removed via other openings (11). A dry inert gas is injected near each end of the coil (121 and 122) to prevent escape of steam and its subsequent cooling and wetting of the product.
