PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaporator capable of starting up for a short time, which is desired as for automobile, and a reformer for fuel cell using the same. SOLUTION: This liquid fuel evaporator is provided with a catalytic combustor 12 packed with an air permeable combustion catalyst 12a inside, an air supply line 14 for supplying air in the catalytic combustor and a fuel spray 16a for spraying the liquid fuel to the upstream side from the combustion catalyst, the catalytic combustion is started by supplying air and the fuel in almost theoretical mixing ratio in a range, where the temp. is not lowered, and next the excess fuel is supplied to be evaporated. A reforming gaseous starting material containing steam is generated by further providing a water spray for spraying water necessary for steam reforming in the upstream side from the combustion catalyst and spraying water to evaporate after the start up of the catalytic combustion. |
