PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently peel the dust collected on dust collecting electrodes by hammering and to reduce re-scattering of peeled dust and to suppress the lowering of the dust collecting capacity. SOLUTION: The electric precipitator is equipped with an earth device for earthing discharge electrodes B2, B3 immediately before the hammering to dust collecting electrodes by hammers and enabling hammering in a non-voltage state and trough portions 40 extending from the upper ends of the dust collecting electrodes or the vicinity thereof to the lower ends thereof or the vicinity of them at the opposed positions of the almost intermediate positions of the discharge electrodes B2, B3 arranged side by side along a gas flow X1. Each of the trough parts 40 is constituted so that troughs having opening parts 40a in the upstream and downstream directions of the gas flow X1 are mutually provided back to back and the inner surfaces 40b of the troughs form almost smooth continuous surfaces from the surfaces of the dust collecting electrodes and the trough walls 40c on the side of the discharge electrodes form a curved shape covering the opening parts 40a.
