OPENING EDGE STRUCTURE OF AUTOMOBILE FRONT DOOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a door opening edge structure for automobiles with sashless front doors that eliminates door opening trims placed along the opening edge of such front doors. SOLUTION: A roof side weather strip 21 is placed along a roof panel 13 and a front pillar 14 about a front door opening 12, and a scuff plate 23 is placed along a bottom panel 16 about the front door opening 12. An instrument panel 24 has at each side edge a swelling portion 24a, which covers a flange portion 15a of a side outer panel 15 exposed between a front-side terminal 21a of the roof side weather strip 21 and a front-side terminal of the scuff plate 23. The front-side terminal 21a of the roof side weather strip 21 has a cover portion 21b, which covers an arcuate upper edge of the swelling portion 24a. The cover portion 21b keeps the flange portion 15a of the side outer panel 15 unexposed, so that no door opening trims need mounting on the flange portion 15a.
