PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily obtain the subject ester in a higher yield by reacting a specific cyclopropanecarboxylic acid ester with a specific monohydroxy compound in the presence of a specific chelate complex. SOLUTION: A cyclopropanecarboxylic acid ester of formula I [R1 to R5 are each H, a halogen, a (substitute) alkyl, a (substxtuted) alkenyl or the like; and R6 is a 1-10C alkyl or a (substituted) phenyl] [e.g. 2,2-dimethyl-3-(2,2- dichlorovinyl)cyclopropanecarboxylic acid menthyl] is transesterified with (B) >=1 equivalent based on the component A of a monohydroxy compound of the formula R7OH R7 is a halogen, an alkenyl, a (substituted) aryl or the like] (e.g. 5-propargylfurfuryl alcohol) and (C) 0.001-200 mol% based on the component A of a chelate compound of a transition metal of the group 4 [e.g. hafnium (IV) acetylacetonato] to give the objective ester of formula II. |
