PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively use decomposition activity of decomposing microorganisms by changing pressure of a gas phase of a pollutant decomposing tank to adjust vapor pressure of the volatile pollutant in the gas phase. SOLUTION: After gas containing volatile pollutant extracted from soil by vacuum extraction is concentrated or diluted if necessary, it is introduced into a pollutant decomposition tank (hereinafter referred to as a decomposition tank) 1. In the case the decomposition tank 1 is of variable volume structure, the gas is introduced into the decomposition tank 1 at almost atmospheric pressure. In the case of pressurizing introduction type, the gas introduced from an introducing port 6 through an air passing means by which it can be pressurized, for example, a compressor 11. By changing pressure in a gas phase of the decomposition tank 1 by the variable volume structure or pressurizing introduction type or the like, vapor pressure of the volatile pollutant in the gas phase is adjusted. In this way, since solubility is changed, concentration of the volatile pollutant in the liquid phase is adjusted to an arbitrary value to make conditions at which decomposition activity of decomposing microorganisms are effectively used to increase the decomposed quantity of the pollutant.
